Clan Be is the new name for a twenty-year-old artistic collaboration between Swiss musician and theater artist Beat Rettenmund and Colombian dancer and choreographer Beatriz Helena Restrepo. What used to be 'Moving Out Danza-Teatro' in Colombia and Central America, then 'MOVING BEYOND Productions' in California, is now 'Clan Be'.
Beatriz H. Restrepo is the founder of the Colombian Ethnic Dance Ensemble, which over fourteen years performed in California, USA. Her training includes Modern, Jazz, Ballet and Ethnic Dance. During three decades of performing and teaching activities she has developed her own unique style of Latin Fusion, rooted in the present, but connecting the spiritual with the physical in a way learned from the ancient traditions of the native people from the Americas and Africa.
Born in Switzerland, Beat Rettenmund worked the streets of Europe for two years busking with his ships piano, then studied theater with Latin American masters in Venezuela and Colombia, before setting out on a street theater tour through Central America, Mexico to the US. Trained as a teacher and classical pianist. He wrote and directed the theatrical aspect of the annual Colombian Cultural Festival in San Francisco and worked intensly in schools, training young people in creative writing, acting and stagecraft.
Clan Be's performances are highly scalable and can be adapted to a variety of settings. Contact us with your needs and we will find a way to make it work.
From brawny street acts for the masses and hearty plays for the community to brainy shows for the high snobiety, we’ve done it all and are very eager to do it anew and afresh. We favor the off-beat side of things, love provocative collaborations with local artists, engage frivolously and persistently in the touchy and controversial, have a profound passion for explaining the impossible, listen attentively to the many voices of fear, skirt all things easy and willfully ponder everything delicate and difficult.
Comfortable in the limelight as well as behind the scene we are willing to follow reasonable instructions, able to create engaging and contagious guidance, efficient when thinking long term, keeping arctic cool when under pressure and always enthusiastic about transformation and radical change. The theater with its many stages is our earthly home. There, just a touch beyond the notorious fourth wall, the laboratory of the human condition reveals itself in its most playful mood. It gently but surely pushes us human beings to walk tenaciously and persistently towards our beautiful world, gifted with responsibly and charm.
