Aluna arrived at the Bay of Island on New Zealand’s North Island on December 2, 2011 and sits now happily on the tidal flats of Whangteau Harbor for a well merited rest, while her crew and inhabitants are venturing into the meandering bowels of civilization.

Aluna - A Polynesian Style Catamaran Sailboat

It’s name echoes the cosmic principle of the Kogui Indians of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta in Northern Colombia.

It’s shape is inspired by the ancient people of the South Pacific, masters of long distance navigation guided by the stars, and it has been refined and adapted to modern materials by the British design team James Wharram and Hanneke Boon.

It’s destiny is the unknown world lurking beyond the horizon of our fears. Powered by sun and wind it will glide across the sea of consciousness away from the material mind.

But first, it needed to be born...
